| Rain, wind, rot, rust, and sun over time eventually reduce all things to dust. All we can do is try to slow down the process. In metals, this process of oxidation or rust is slowest in gold, titanium, and stainless steel. Other metals must be protected from the oxygen in air with a chemical barrier. This has given rise to the coating industry and an ongoing search for a paint that doesn't loose the battle. |

However, outdoor exposure research has long since concluded that resin remarkably outperforms wood and the metals used in outdoor furniture, and does it by a wide margin. They all yield too soon to rain, sun, and wind. Recent developments in resin formulation permit Fincastle to manufacture outdoor furniture of the highest quality without concern for longevity or yellowing of its finish. |

Fincastle Chair's designer, Tim Maloney, is a artist (Marc Chagall was among his teachers) who has a diverse collection of patents and awards. His work has turned up in places like NBC News, CBS Home Show, The Washington Post, Fine Homebuilding magazine and so on. Among his awards he values most the ones relating to environmentally responsive design. His history of developing products made from advanced resins dates back to work done for the Air Force and NASA.

Laboratory and Saint Joe Zinc, created the context in which he developed Andure®. His long search for the means to render resin invulnerable to the elements employed year-long weatherization chamber tests, five-year underwater tests and a multi-year study of coatings. He stumbled upon the answer while doing peer review for the U.S. Department of Energy. He says, "The crystalline system we set up in Andure® using rutile titanium tricks the sun into 'seeing anything made out of it as a hole in space - similar to the way a stealth bomber evades radar - largely out of harms way."
