Fincastle's Mission
Our goal is to create products using advanced materials for the shelter industry. Our designer, Tim Maloney, has worked with leaders in new technology at both NASA and Los Alamos National Laboratory where he served as principle investigator in research projects on the use of resin in extreme environments.
We found that outdoor furniture was an excellent application for combining classic aesthetic styling with modern engineered materials. Existing outdoor furniture reflects a compromise between traditional appearance and limited choice of materials. We changed the industry by precision carving furniture parts from solid blocks of a remarkable co-polymer resin named Andure®. By introducing Andure® to this market, compromises are no longer necessary. |

UV Exposure
Ultraviolet light takes its name from its ultra long wavelength. It is this wavelength that can penetrate and break the polymer chain causing embrittlement and chalking. Studies show that an unusually efficient light-absorbing molecule called HALS is effective to protect Andure®'s long chain molecular structure. HALS is compounded into Andure® in a dosage sufficient to secure the longevity of Andure®'s molecular structure from UV deterioration and thereby ensure the long life of our outdoor furniture.
Solid Construction
The strength of our furniture is ensured by our use of solid construction and a sophisticated engineered resin - Andure® - in substantial thicknes. All Fincastle furniture is made from solid blocks of 3/8", 3/4" or 1 1/8" Andure® resin. Therefore, the leg cross sections on our seating are at least 2 /2" x 1 1/8" thick, which is 20 times the standard for popular resin furniture. |

Sun Shield
Common resin will fail as a result of the constant penetration of solar radiation. We fight the sun's fire with another fire - rutile - which is a titanium ore. Rutile is alloyed with our co-polymer to become Andure® and reflects damaging solar radiation by redirecting it into a harmless pattern becoming what we call "fire" in a diamond. When we alloy rutile titanium ore with resin, we capture the benefits of this remarkable crystal, of its density and fire, both of which are greater than that of diamond. |

Maintenance
Andure® furniture will scratch and scrape, which is virtually the only thing it has in common with wood furniture. However, a cigarette burn or painted graffiti will scrub off. The finish on Andure® furniture will be just as bright in 20 years as it was when new. You can scour off any stain we have found with an SOS pad. You don't have to be timid with Andure® - it has skin like a rhinoceros. |
